Condolence: Doug was a hero and an Airborne Ranger in Vietnam. People don’t seem to know this. He spent four years in Vietnam and bottled it up. He was the best commander I ever served under, an exceptional leader who kept people safe in the field. I idolized him. Condolences to the family. It is extremely rare to meet an officer of Doug’s caliber. Pro Patria, Sir.

Condolence: In 3 RCR Mortar Platoon we called Doug the "Flying Doctor" one wing swept night in Germany in the middle of nowhere Doug talked in a wounded man in a personal carrier. Just using a flashlight and a radio Doug got the Al Fox into the medics for treatment. From then on we called him the Flying Doctor, he always seemed to like the nick name.

Good Officer and human.

Condolence: I never had the pleasure of meeting with Doug’s family but I have known Doug ever since we did our officer training in Gagetown all those years ago.. Even though I was in a different regiment, the Vandoos, our path did cross over the years. I remember Doug coming to our help in some god forsaken place in Guatemala after we had an accident with our vehicle.. I will always remember Doug for his “joie de vivre”, his fortitude and optimism when things were bad and especially for his great smile. He will be miss, Walter

Condolence: Dear Mrs Eaton,

On behalf of Doug's colleagues in the United Nations peacekeeping missions in Guatemala, and those of us who worked with him in El Salvador, I wish to offer you and your family our heartfelt condolences. May you be consoled by remembering that he served to establish and protect the peace for people in Central America; and may he rest in peace.
